Chandrayaan-3: Everything about ISRO’s Successful Moon Mission

On July 14, 2023, Chandrayaan-3 was launched. Through this mission, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will conduct research on the Moon’s surface. By reading the article ‘Everything about Chandrayaan-3 in Hindi’, you can learn all the things about this mission that you need to know.

Chandrayaan-3 successfully made a smooth landing on the moon’s surface on August 23rd.

Chandrayaan-3 Mission

As the name suggests, Chandrayaan-3 is ISRO’s 3rd Moon mission.

After landing on the Moon, the Chandrayaan-3 mission will operate for 14 days, during which it will send data related to the Moon’s surface.

The total weight of the Chandrayaan-3 lunar craft is approximately 3900 kg. It consists of a Propulsion module (2148 kg), a Lander module named ‘Vikram’ (1752 kg), and a Rover named ‘Pragyan’ (26 kg).

The rocket responsible for launching this lunar craft is the LVM 3 (Light Vehicle Machine), and it was launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.

The entire mission has a budget of only ₹615 crore, which is quite budget-friendly considering space missions.

The Lander and Rover of Chandrayaan-3 will land on the south pole of the Moon on August 23, 2023.

Why ISRO done Chandrayaan-3 mission?

  • ISRO aims to accomplish three things with the Chandrayaan-3 mission:
  • Achieving a soft and safe landing of the ‘Vikram’ lander on the Moon.
  • Understanding how the ‘Pragyan’ rover can traverse on the Moon’s surface.
  • Studying the chemicals, natural elements, soil, water, etc. present on the lunar surface.

From Bicycle to Moon

Through a single photograph, if one were to illustrate success, this particular image would be among the most accurate choices. In the early days of ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation), the budget of this organization used to be so limited that scientists had to transport rockets using bicycles and bullock carts.

There was a time back then, and there is a present day now. ISRO is now conducting successful missions to the Moon and beyond. Prior to this, the space organization has also achieved a successful mission to Mars and has even grander plans for the future. Further discussions have been carried out regarding those missions.
